The dream and vision of Mr.Nalaka de Silva became a reality back in 2001. It’s been almost two decades but the quality and deliciousness of the food offered at Food Waves continue to exceed our expectations. Offering a wide range of South and North Indian dishes to tantalise our taste buds and not stopping there, they also have a range of indo- Chinese options for those who crave a touch of the ever so famous Chinese Cuisine.
Sri Lanka being the Pearl of the Indian Ocean continues to offer great Indian delicacies and Food Waves has just about every flavour to fulfill our cravings. We were warmly welcomed into their main branch in Nawala , a fully air conditioned and well maintained restaurant.
The menu showcased the traditional Indian items such as dosas, paneer tikka and naan as well as a few thalis starting from 320/- up-to 400/- for lunch and a business lunch priced at 200/- for those who like to come over with their work colleagues during a lunch break and enjoy a filling meal for a great price.
We decided to try their very popular starter the Veg. Onion Pakoda priced at 380/- It was definitely a big portion that can be shared among a group of friends.
Along with the crispy pakoda we also got their homemade mango lassi, made with fresh in house made curd and fresh mangoes super creamy and tangy. We had to try multiple main dishes both South and North Indian just because the starters really exceeded expectations. Cheese naan @ 280/- , Plain naan @ 140/-, Tandoori chillie parota @ 250/-, Paneer butter masala which is their signature dish and also their best seller @ 540/- , Gobhi munchoorian dry @ 560/- and a special manchurian rice which was extra delicious with cubes of manchurian paneer mixed in the rice.
Of them all, we absolutely loved the paneer butter masala packed with subtle spices and just the right amount of chillie and cream. The paneer itself is homemade and super soft. Tandoor Chillie parota really does satisfy the cravings of a chillie hunter. It was super spicy topped with a handful of green chillies.
Moving on we also tried the South Indian dishes which were the traditional extra large Paper dosai @ 260/- , Masala dosai which comes with a stuffing of masala potatoes @ 260/- , Ghee roast @ 340/- and Rava dosai which is the healthier option in the variety of dosai offered at Food Waves.
Overall all of the dishes were very flavourful, crispy, authentic and fresh. The dosai are super delicious and served with traditional sambar and chutney. We also tried out the thali which was plenty for lunch and definitely worth the price you pay. The thali gives you an opportunity to taste a bit of everything but also fills you up for lunch.
A must try would be the paneer butter masala, thali and the ghee roast. Opening times are 11am to 3pm and from 3pm to 10pm. They also have three outlets around Colombo and the main one is in Nawala. If you are around the area or plan a lunch ahead of time it’s totally worth checking this place out.
Nearly 20 years of experience and serving many hungry tummies definitely says a lot.
