The Infinity Buffet at Echo – the Italian restaurant at Cinnamon Grand, takes place every Wednesday evening and brings Italy’s best-loved flavours to your plate. Located in the Angsana Spa premises at the very beginning of the Cinnamon Grand, Echo's buffet, bar and fine dining experience is complemented with dark, eclectic decor, celebrating the diner in every sense. We went over there to check out the Infinity Buffet and here’s what we thought of it.
The buffet of Starters
The range of starters is the best part of this experience. From salads to soups to a fab bread counter and that’s not all, they also have hot starters, a huge selection of mouthwatering Bruschettas, Pizzas, cold cuts, Cheeses, Fresh Oysters and an endless array of items. Quite a humongous range and a myriad of colours around you. You wonder where to start. This is the infinity range they refer to when they call it the ‘Infinity Buffet’.
Caprese Salad was what we served ourselves first and the Italian Chef Marco Longhi explained that it depicts the colours of the Italian flag – green white and red. Made with tomato, mozzarella cheese, Basil leaves and olives this was a light salad ideal to have before a meal. Then we went on to the Bruschettas which is an antipasto from Italy consisting of grilled bread rubbed with garlic and topped with olive oil and salt. Variations include toppings of tomato, vegetables, beans, cured meat, or cheese. Chef Marco had gone to town with his colourful Bruschetta range. Some of the items we tasted were the Tomato and Black Olive Bruschetta and we thought it was yummy until we had the Pesto and Roasted Red Capsicum Bruschetta which was even better. The other starters we tried out were the Roasted Chicken with Tonna Sauce which was again really tasty and the Roasted Pumpkin and Garlic was something different. The beef in the Beef Carpaccio seemed a little too underdone for my liking. Their Pizza range included Non-Veg as well as a Vegetarian selection.
Main Meal
After you have had your fill with the starters you are served the main meal and thereafter the dessert. This is not a buffet. It is a plated dish which comprises four portions served in separate little dishes and placed on one plate. There was Lamb, Tuna, Fettuccine and Cannelloni. Although the portions are fairly small, it is more than enough after having all those starters. This I think is a really good idea as the guest can taste four starters instead of one. The well-marinated Roasted leg of Lamb was soft and garnished with Rosemary Potato. The Tuna was beautifully pan-fried and drizzled with sesame and served on a bed of Saffron Mashed Potato. The Homemade Green Fettuccine topped with Cheese Sauce was a mild creamy pasta. The Cannelloni was baked to perfection and had the popular filling Spinach and the Italian Cheese Ricotta with tomato sauce. The combination was perfect and well balanced.
Desserts
The dessert also like the Main meal has three different items on one plate. The Layered Cheese Cake and the Panna Cotta with Chocolate were the ones I really liked and the Mixed Fruit Salad with Ice Cream was also good.
The Service
The service was great. The two Managers were walking around paying attention to all the guests, in the same manner, making sure everything was in order and that every guest left the place happy and eager to come again.
