Calorie Lab: Banana Chocolate Milkshake

This column is inspired by the many attempts I have made in the past to follow a healthy diet. So I thought that it was time that we introduce a more fun way of eating healthy as I hope to embark on this journey once more. I have always wondered how people enjoy healthy diets as I never found it appealing until I found out that I have been doing it all wrong!

So in the weeks to come we will introduce to you easy and fun recipes that are very much calorie conscious for you to try at home and substitute with other options of your diet. This week we present you with the Banana Chocolate Milkshake which is an ideal smoothie to have in the morning or a post work out session.

All you need is:

  Calorie Count
1 frozen banana (100g) 89
1 1/2 tablespoons of cocoa powder 18
1 cup of low fat milk 43
1/2 tablespoon of honey (optional) 32
Grand total =  182

Put all of these ingredients into a blender and blend till it has a nice and smooth consistency. And you must drink it while it’s cold! This recipe serves one.

It is also a good way to save all those overripe bananas that you have at home. Slice it and store in your refrigerator. The more frozen it is the better the smoothie will be. And using cocoa powder instead of chocolate syrup reduces the calorie count by a lot. And at the same time you avoid consuming artificial and unhealthy sugars.
