Meet Shadir Hisham who does a lot more than just photography for Colombo's one and only youth operated portfolio provider - Revolution Portfolio. He's the founder and has taken Revolution Portfolio to great heights and success over the the years.
Shadir is just like us when it comes to food choices - it's going to be pizza anyday and with a great taste in fashion from linen to leather strapped watches as well as his amazing taste in music and love for Drake!
Hi Shadir, tell us a little about your business and your line of work.
Initially it was just simply exploring a passion during the time of my Ordinary Levels at Wesley College. I had just gotten a camera and didn’t know what to do with it. That’s when I realized there are many people like me who didn’t know what to do with a camera and was eager to get out there. That’s when I started Revolution Portfolio as a platform to engage these budding photographers to give them an arena to experience what it is to be an all rounded media personnel. It’s been 4 years and we have worked with so many high-end clients and organizations.
What inspired you to be an entrepreneur at such a young age?
Since the age of around 10 I always had this drive to do things, to give back something to society, to make a difference. I have been experimenting since then trying to find what I could be good at. Then I started reading book like “Screw it, Let’s Do it” by Richard Branson which inspired me to start early. Today 4 years after starting Revolution Portfolio we have expanded into a Media Network called “RevPort Media Network” which is the parent company to Revolution Portfolio, MotionRev Pictures (video productions) and PoppedUp Pop Up studios (photobooth services). So looking back to my childhood I’m proud of what I have achieved as a youth entrepreneur and looking forward to further excel in other areas.
What do you believe in strongly that most people will disagree with?
It’s not easy working alone. You always need your team. They are the real heroes in your success story.
How does it feel to be one of Colombo’s first and only youth operated portfolio solution providers?
We do take pride in being a unique total youth operated portfolio services provider not only in Colombo but in Sri Lanka. Like I said we have expanded further into a Media Network which is still in the works and still at development stage. We are also happy to be able to provide multiple media related services from event coverage (both photography and video), advertising, design, video productions and professional instant printing services.
What does your closet look like?
I love my brands. My cupboard is full of designer shirts, T-shirts and suits. Mostly white shirts and I’m also a watch lover having over 10 luxury and sports watches.
In addition to Revolution Portfolio, what else have you done in the entertainment biz and would like to flaunt?
I’m also a mentor in photography and media ethics conducting workshops for schools and other organizations. I also do Event Management and consulting.
What would you say is your greatest achievement so far?
One of my greatest achievement far is being recognized as a youth entrepreneur almost everywhere. So you can say my childhood dream is coming true.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, a lot of change can happen. But I see myself as an inspirational role model and a much more evolved entrepreneur in multiple fields.
What have you got to say to the youth of Sri Lanka?
There maybe many people who say things like don’t do it, it’s too crazy, you’re too young. But never let that stop you from achieving your dreams which you’re most passionate about. After all you are your own driving force. So keep driving your dreams!
