Today on WTF, I take you on a happy journey. Life is challenging in many ways and we tend to grumble and frown about the smallest things we find as a challenge. After Mummy passed away I was blessed to experience the challenges that one may face because of cancer, and launched Love Changes Everything back in 2012, and I must say the Wijeya Newspapers Group has helped me so much in making this not just a dream but a reality.

The Foundation, under its principal project “Love Changes Everything”, recently organized an event to gift books and colouring materials to the Children’s Ward of the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama. The star power of Sri Lanka came out in force to support this worthy cause, which was generously sponsored by Playskool. And I have to say a big thank you to Dinuk Hettiarachchi, and to all the other partners from Playskool for all the support, in making 200 kids smile, and giving them more encouragement to keep studying and smiling.

All those present were able to interact with the children who were in hospice care, and ward visits were also made to share some love with those who were undergoing heavier treatment. Further adding to DIF’s commitment to assisting families with fewer means of supporting themselves during this difficult period, Rs. 50 000 was collected through the sale of the Danulicious Brownie and was donated by Nilusha De Silva from Skrumptious to 10 deserving families. And it has been a pleasure working with Skrumptious. I'm most certain that the next collection is going to be more. Donations were also made by Push Skateboards to the families residing in hospice care.

The non-toxic, safety approved toys provided by Playskool were an immediate hit with the kids, as were the smiles from some very familiar faces. Those who came out to share their weekend with these children included Udari Perera, Randhir, Kishan, Madhavi, Nadeesha, Saranga. The Foundation is dedicated to uplifting the lives of children fighting cancer, and will continue to do many more acts of love in the future to fulfil this goal.

“Im sure many have told you, there are many helping them, but there is so much more to do,” says Kamilka Perera, who is also a part of the CCC Foundation and has been an active member in supporting the ones who need all the effort at the Hospital.

When you get a minute do drop in sometime, all they need is a good chat with a kind person like you. Thanks for all the support!
