Today on WTF Extra – I speak about the Voice Foundation Walk that took place on October 10 for a very timely project, to create awareness about abuse in our society. As one of our guests of honors for our Voice Walk which was organized on behalf of the World Children's Day, it was important to bring awareness aboutt child abuse which has dominated the front pages of all newspapers today.
Many well known faces together with many youth who championed this cause assembled at Campbell Park in Borella at 8:30am.
Child abuse is increasing day by day in our country. Sadly, even some parents are involved in abusing their own children physically as well as emotionally. The purpose of this walk was to make parents aware of their responsibilities and to educate children about their rights.
Speaking to me, the Director of the Voice Foundation Senior Pastor Dishan De Silva of Bethany Christian Life Centre says “To be a better Sri Lanka, we first need to be better Sri Lankans, and the Voice Walk was a call for action to parents and adult citizens of our country to immediately take more responsibility to help protect and develop the children of Sri Lanka,”
And I was told that The Voice Foundation are currently collaborating with government officials and the corporate sector to help partner in several prevention programmes and the safe house project to be launched in January 2016.
The walk ended with many key messages being shared amongst those who were present and MP Harin Fernando was amongst the present.
