What - 'Cheap chic' hotels
This week on WTF I got sweaty and filthy in a bus to get down at Ambalangoda to be a part of a relaxing yet affordable experience.
JUCE Hotel occupies a fully refurbished building of 21 rooms located on a dreamy beach in Ambalangoda. It is a revolutionary new brand of mid-range 'cheap chic' hotels, with funk, style and tripped out groves. The first JUCE in Ambalangoda was opened on the 19th of December 2016, and also hosted 123 BPM on the day of the opening. The party was set up on the poolside and started up at sunset with a lineup of DJs who played and maintained a BPM of 123 all night.
The new hotel has direct access to the beach and a fantastic private pool. The hotel also includes colour changing rooms, and an eighteen bed dorm room, a rooftop bar with a resident DJ, a fabulous chill out pool, and a beachside pizza corner. The interiors of the hotel were all exclusively designed by award-winning architectural and interior designer Lalin Jinesena who is known for his successfully established hotel projects such as Casa Colombo Collection. And the idea of bringing green into the interior gives that soft and relaxing yet refreshing feel to you when you are in the property, and has brought the Ambalangoda atmosphere with the Sri Lankan masks.
At JUCE Hotel, there's an interesting execution preserving modern design, set your mood lighting, ostentatious mirror masks, juicy grooves and an altogether sexy feel to your living quarters, with most of the funky rooms fitted out with cozy single and double beds.
As it's an interesting place, you get interesting things. As I walked in I was told I have two options when it comes to my room choices.
Types of Rooms
FUK’D UP VIEW ROOMS ~ Non seaview rooms
FUKIN’ AMAZING VIEW ROOMS ~ Seaview rooms (of course I took this one, as my life is the other on a normal day)
The Juce Hotel, Ambalangoda is a sister brand of Casa Colombo Collection and it houses beautiful modern rooms facilitated with Bluetooth JBL Speakers, Phillips Hue mood lighting which was something me and the You're My Favorite team spent a lot of time playing with. They have pod chairs, a safe, flatscreen cable TV and a spacious balcony with comfortable seating to relish the sunset. In a nutshell, JUCE is an exotic escape by the ocean from the stress of daily life.
JUCE Hotel houses a restaurant that caters to a funky fusion cuisine along with an outdoor restaurant serving a delicious range of pizzas and a trendy rooftop bar offering uplifting cocktails for everyone. The main restaurant is known as BITE which houses a dining area offering continental cuisine along with the option of a classic American breakfast at a reasonable price. The Lobby Bar is called SIP where you can sip on your favourite herbal tea, Rock a Love Juce or savour a cool smoothie in the most relaxed stylish lobby bar. The Surf Shack is set by the edge of the main pool and adjacent to the beach. The sand-floored open-air restaurant is the social heart providing extensive pizza menus alongside contemporary cocktails and even a chocolate pizza which you can never miss out on.
The Beachside Shack will also provide you with diving gear and other equipment such as surfboards and snorkeling goggles for fun-filled water sport activities. You will never go short of options in having fun, I even tried fishing for the first time, and yes, I was bad at it. I had the best time with a boogie board, but options to get out of everything and just chill is also done in style with a beautiful pool and many ways to enjoy the sun and the breathtaking view. Vertigo is a rooftop bar and is the place to sip on cocktails, order a snack, relax in the coolest elevation and enjoy the crimson sunset.
It's still a new place, and you will still find a few fine tuning issues, but overall it's a backpacker weekend I will put down as my BEST – AND THEY EVEN LET YOUR PETS COME ALONG!
