The rain just did not stop the jazz over the weekend. What an amazing lineup it had and that’s how a show is done! And, I’m not even a big fan of jazz and the kind of jazz they played was full of life and full of happy vibes. 

The Mercedes-Benz Colombo Jazz Festival 2017 opened on the 18th and 19th of February at the Galle Face hotel. Last year's success was amazing, and 2017 took it to another level, as this year the event expanded to cover two days with over 45 artists, and so much more food. The festival showcased great international jazz, new artists, along with international and local jazz legends and groups - a first for Sri Lanka to be done at this level. 

On the 19th when the rain was not look good the official Facebook page said this: 

“Good morning Festival-goers! We are working at getting everything up and going for today's lineup and gates will open at 1:00PM. St. Joseph is out today as well... see you there!” which I found very cute, but poor St. Joseph did try his best but the clear sky did come around only by 7:00PM. 

The man behind the event is Gehan Fernando. Speaking to me he says, “The event is to bring people together and get them to have a good time.” 

My favourite was The Diablos, who played some good old classic hits, with a modern twist. The Diablos were a 7 piece soul and funk band who really made the rain look NOT so bad. 

In total it was a great show and we at WTF brought a few moments to show you! Till the next jazz fest!
