Today on WTF , we wanted to cover the new trend and its all hotel style! My two fellow WTF partners from You're My Favorite have always wanted to feature this, as it's such a feel good place and with a lot of likeminded people.
As I walked in, I loved it, from the paintings on the wall to the interesting furniture, there was surely something cool and fancy about this place.
Speaking to the guys behind the brand they say “It is more than just a bed.” And I totally agree with it. While I was there, I made friends with Frank Sheridan, and upcoming musician. We were his first audience, and I befriended these two super lovely girls Sarah Marie Augustana and Daniel Jay, who have quit their jobs to start something which will focus on travel and they are here to experience Sri Lanka!
The essence of the Bunkyard Hostel is to embrace the Sri Lankan within them. And their goal is to bring out the Sri Lankan within you too. The name Bunkyard stems from the concept of a junkyard theme with bunk-beds.
I love the way they have used the space and named it well, with pricing done accordingly and all fittings are constructed using all locally sourced materials and it's tastefully recycled. Bunkyard Hostels is focused on creating a localized culture within our locations to give the traveller the true feel of Sri Lanka.
Food is interesting. Breakfast is on the house, and the rest is up to you. You can cook, eat out, store in the fridge, and you just have to make it your home. Coffee and tea is an all day feature, and if you want to get away and make new friends and play with your thoughts you should do it.
Speaking to Sarah and Daniel, although it was just a few hours into their time in Sri Lanka, they seemed to have instantly fallen in love with the place, and all what they had to say was “We love it!”.
The walls are a special feature at Bunkyard, as there is always something to see, and it's still coming to life little by little, so when you have the time, make sure you take some time off and experience this place, as you are sure to meet some cool people.
