This week on WTF, I visited a place that I have fond memories of visiting - the milk shop close to my school. Way before the roads were made, and way before they looked like what they look like now, it just used to be a hole in the wall serving big portions of refreshing milk. I'm the kind of guy who loves milk and will say yes to it anytime of the day.
The Fresh Milk Shop, commonly known as the Kiri Kade by all the school kids, is a Wellawatte shop just close to the canal, overlooking the St. Peters' College grounds. It runs a delivery service as well as a milk bar. And its very popular among hungry, thirsty students. The Kiri Kade has an array of relatively cheap short eats and drinks to offer. And my favourite is the egg burger and their very tasty Rs.40 egg toasty.
What makes the Kiri Kade my favourite place even during back to back meetings to stop at is because, apart from the usual chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavours, they have a unique flavour and that’s the green almond milk. The mugs are fairly large and filling so you can stop with one, but if you are a bottomless pit like me, then you might have to go for two.
At one point this year, they had ice cream, which was awfully sweet but it did hit the right spot for me, and now they have the milk ice packets. I'm sure you remember this. As kids, this is what we used to suck on when walking home after school or even waiting for our vans to pick us up.
We wanted to do something different, so we thought of doing a video that would resemble what the Milk Shop commercial would look like. Fun wordings with wrong grammer was used.
Do check out the video, you will be hooked on it!
