Where - The Commons / Ramada / Galle Face Green / Pilawoos Bambalapitiya
As you know, I’m such a foodie, and always love to try something nice, and street food is my all time favourite! This week, together with my buddies from King’s Co. we set out to find the best kottu in Colombo.
These were my chosen places:
1. The Commons, located at No.39 A, Flower Road, Colombo is definitely the favourite place to hang out and I met some people there, took some orders down and made myself useful. The Chicken Kottu is to die for! It’s just a happy portion and to top this beauty off you need a good Coffee Shake from The Commons menu.
I did meet a few guys who had never tasted the Coffee Shake! I made Amri try it, and he did say that my choice was a winner!
2. The Ramada Colombo has also given some great flavours to the menu. I walked in there a long long time ago and tried their kottu and fell in love with it! Their Prawn Kottu is to die for, and they give a nasty (great) curry with it and a siyambala (tamarind) sauce which adds the extra kick to it. I had no choice but to finish the full thing!
The place to visit is the Gardenia Coffee Shop. Jagath was the man who made us choose the best combination, and if you need the best off of the menu, meet Jagath!
3. Then we walked all the way to Galle Face Green, to one of my favourite places and that’s King’s NANA and met Toyna who is a big fan of WTF. Speaking to me, he says that kottu is such a fast moving item on the menu, and that even then he was done with orders. But he did make a special one.
Roast chicken will cost you Rs. 300 and the regular chicken kottu will cost you Rs. 250. I love the fact that it’s spicy and a good place to dine at. I did get my hands dirty and made my own kottu too! Must say that if you keep at it, you even get a rhythm!
4. Last stop, the ever so famous Pilawoos! But my chosen place is the Bambalapitiya outlet and I just like their take on it. Additionally, they also use a lot of green chillie!
You go, you park your vehicle, you make your order and the service gets better with your frequent visits and tips.
Remember all prices are subject to change, but these are the four places to go and enjoy the best kottu!
