Fitball training is an excellent way to improve posture, balance and core strength. Working with the ball also greatly improves the body's sense of proprioception - the ability to sense the position and orientation and movement of the body and its parts.
Helpful hints for Fitball
1. Work barefoot. Your sense of balance is greatly improved when you can feel the ground through your bare feet. Certain movements require balance on the balls of the feet, again better without shoes.
2. Choose the right sized ball. When you sit on the ball with your feet on the ground the angle at your knees should be 90 degrees. If it is more, the ball is too large. If it is less, the ball is too small.
3. Wear comfortable clothing with no external buttons or zips which may catch on the ball.
4. Remove large items of jewellery which may get caught on the ball. If you have long hair tie it back for the same reason.
5. Always keep a towel and water bottle handy. Sweaty hands can be slippery and dangerous.
