Kosgoda is a quiet area, perfect for those seeking rest and relaxation.  Take a long stroll along the beach, find a romantic spot to watch the sunset or find a local restaurant that serves seafood - you won't be disappointed.

But be sure to visit the Victor Hasselblad Turtle Hatchery and Sanctuary: every night, hundreds of baby turtles are born.  75% are released immediately, but 25% are kept for a few days in order to increase their chances of survival.  You'll see five different species, plenty of babies, and a few full-grown turtles.

The fishermen bring the eggs here - though one lucky tourist watched a turtle lay her eggs and brought her eggs to the sanctuary as well.

Listen to Thomas describe his amazing experience in this video!  The eggs are buried underground and the turtles are born approximately 50 days later.  Some of the babies that you'll see in this video - the ones that are two or three days old - will be released at night-time.

In the cover of darkness, they stand a higher chance of making it to the ocean and surviving those first dangerous hours in open water.
