A Housewife's Diary
SUNDAY "Should you eat the whole egg?" is the question raised in the Readers Digest. Eggs are dense little packets of excellent nutrition. They have good amounts of protein. The yolk contains two thirds of the egg's protein, and it is in the yolk you'll find the majority of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, nutrients like calcium, iron, zinc, and folate, as well as vitamins A and E. In contrast, the egg white has small amounts of B Vitamins and potassium, and a measly one third of the total protein. So stick to eating the whole egg.
MONDAY Mustard seeds are high in antioxidants and are nutrient dense with selenium, which is known to have anti-inflammatory properties. They speed up metabolism and lower blood pressure. They have antiseptic as well as anti fungal properties. They reduce the frequency of migraines. Prepared mustard pastes should be kept refrigerated. So pass the mustard please.
TUESDAY A little tip. When putting eye drops into your eyes, place a finger on the inner corner, exerting pressure to prevent eye drops from entering the nasal cavity. Continue exerting pressure for some time after putting the eye drops.
WEDNESDAY Mushroom Stir Fry. Cut up Oyster mushrooms, reserving stems for a soup. Stir fry with thin strips of carrot, sliced capsicum (remove seeds), onions, tomatoes and garlic. Add a dash of chilly pieces, and salt. Add one Tblsp each of Soya Sauce and Oyster Sauce.

THURSDAY If you are bothered with cramps in the legs at night, try this. Put a pinch of table salt on you tongue at bedtime daily, and you will definitely get relief. Even at the time of the cramp, a little salt on the tongue will bring relief. So always keep a tiny canister of salt on your bedside table .

FRIDAY Drinking tea with a meal can inhibit the absorbtion of iron, because the tannin in tea binds with the iron in the intestine and hinders its absorbtion. So it is a good idea to avoid tea with your meals.

SATURDAY "The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but the beauty of a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows, and the beauty of a woman, with passing years, only grows."
