Rajitha Dissanayake’s critically acclaimed drama ‘Weeraya Merila’ (The Hero is Dead) will be staged at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on July 7 (Saturday) at 3.30pm. and 7.00 pm.

The play which has completed over 100 shows marks its 10th anniversary this year with a comeback run. When the play was first staged in 2002, it won five awards including ‘Best Play’ at the State Drama Festival.

The plot revolves around a journalist who is caught up in a society increasingly influenced by the corporate media. The play takes a serious look at how a media driven purely by profit and lacking ethics, impacts people’s lives and makes them victims of the system.

The cast comprises Priyankara Ratnayake, Dharmapriya Dias, Shyam Fernando, Prasad Sooriyarachchi, Dayadewa Edirisinghe, Sampath Jayaweera, Samadhi Laksiri, Gihan de Chickera, Dilini Sandeepika and Nalin Lusena.

Tickets priced at Rs 1000, 750, 500 and 350 (balcony) are available at the venue. All seats are box planned and tickets are available at Lionel Wendt theatre office.
