Several child artistes have made their mark in the Sinhala and film and tele drama spheres while some have even gained international recognition.

Young Thisuna Perera who has acted in some 70 tele drams and 17 films, is another child star with great potential. This year he won two special awards at the Raigam Tele-es and the SIGNIS Salutation for his outstanding role as little Vibuthirathne in Swayanjatha.

Daily Mirror Impulse spoke to this talented boy whose ambition is to become a good actor and video editor when he grows up.

How did you get into acting?

In fact it was my mother who had spoken to veteran actress Malkanthi Jayasinghe and got me a small role in Sudath Rohana’s ‘Eka Iththaka Mal’. I was just six years then. I study at Isipathana Vidyalaya, Colombo and will be sitting for the GCE OL exam next year. I study drama and arts. I get permission from school to act in tele dramas but most of the schedules are on Saturday and Sunday.

Your feelings about the recent SIGNIS award you received?

The role of little Vibuthirathne in Sudath Rohana’s ‘Swayanjatha’ was indeed an extraordinary role. I had to wear a special pair of dentures too. The complexion of my body was changed completely. I also got a merit award for this role at the Raigam awards ceremony this year. I know how much I dedicated myself to make this role a success.

What are the tele drama projects you had acted in?

Eka Iththaka Mal, Swayanjatha, Bonda Meedum, Bageta Neyo, Nadu Asana Walawwa, Parevi Rejina, Kapsuvahas Kal, Me Suramya Paradeesaya, Sudantharaya, Etheraweema and others.

You also acted in films?

Yes I acted in about 17 films so far. Among the are Kurumittek Ewilla, Weda Beri tarzan 1 and 2, Adare Namayen, Rassa Kele and others.

You seem to have gained a lot of experience as a child actor?

I am grateful to my mother Mrs. Tekla Wijekoon who worked for Little Rose Newspapers, my father Sarath Perera who is a businessman and brother Thilina Rukshan (involved in sound engineering) for giving me all the encouragement. I am also thankful to my school authorities, the directors, actors and actress in films and tele dramas who always motivate and guide me.

Your hobbies?

Listening to music and live video editing using multiple cameras. My ambition is to study well and become a good actor and video editor.
