Bang! The Complete History of the Universe

By Brian May

Evolution

Brian May, astrophysics Ph.D., joins forces with legendary astronomer Patrick Moore and astrophysicist Chris Lintott in Bang! to consider the history of the universe from the Big Bang to Heat Death.

Space, time, and matter were birthed 13.7 billion years ago and will continue on longer than we are able to comprehend. Infinitesimally small at first, the Universe is immense and ever expanding.

Bang! explains how it all started, takes you on a tour of what is known about the evolution of the Universe, and posits how the end of time will come about. This fascinating book includes photographs, short biographies of key figures, an at-a-glance timeline, a glossary of terms, and suggested resources for further exploration.

Half of a Yellow Sun

By Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie

Fiction

In 1960s Nigeria, a country blighted by civil war, three lives intersect.

Ugwu, a boy from a poor village, works as a houseboy for a university professor. Olanna, a young woman, has abandoned her life of privilege in Lagos to live with her charismatic new lover, the professor.

And Richard, a shy English writer, is in thrall to Olanna’s enigmatic twin sister. As the horrific Biafran War engulfs them, they are thrown together and pulled apart in ways they had never imagined.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s masterpiece, winner of the Orange Prize for Fiction, is a novel about Africa in a wider sense: about the end of colonialism, ethnic allegiances, class and race – and about the ways in which love can complicate all of these things.

The Hundred Secret Senses
By Amy Tan

Literary Fiction

The Hundred Secret Senses is an exultant novel about China and America, love and loyalty, the identities we invent and the true selves we discover along the way. Olivia Laguni is half-Chinese, but typically American in her uneasiness with her patchwork family.

And no one in Olivia's family is more embarrassing to her than her half-sister, Kwan Li. For Kwan speaks mangled English, is cheerfully deaf to Olivia's sarcasm, and sees the dead with her "yin eyes."

Even as Olivia details the particulars of her decades-long grudge against her sister (who, among other things, is a source of infuriatingly good advice), Kwan Li is telling her own story, one that sweeps us into the splendour, squalour, and violence of Manchu China.

And out of the friction between her narrators, Amy Tan creates a work that illuminates both the present and the past sweetly, sadly, hilariously, with searing and vivid prose.

Father of Modern Missions
WILLIAM CAREY

Spiritual

Born in England in 1761, Carey sailed for India shortly after his ordination as a Baptist minister. Carey’s harvest would be great, indeed almost unthinkable by today’s standards.

For not only was William Carey winning souls for Jesus — “baptizing them in the name of the Father , and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” — he was keenly involved in improving the quality of life for millions, “teaching them to observe all things...”

William Carey, in his own words, not only expected great things from God, he attempted great things for His Lord and Savior.

Rich Dad’s Prophecy
By Robert T. Kiyosaki

Economy

Rich Dad's Prophecy answers the question on every working person's mind: "Will I ever be able to retire?"

Be forewarned. With the recent volatility of the stock market and the upheavals in corporate America, millions of workers are watching their life savings melt away in front of their eyes. 401(k) plans are no longer a guaranteed fast track to a secure retirement, but what are the alternatives?

Robert Kiyosaki's rich dad foresaw these unfortunate events more than two decades ago. His prophecy was that these retirement programmes would cause one of the biggest stock market crashes in history...a crash that is still coming. Rich Dad's Prophecy will show you how retirement financing will affect all of us, regardless of our age or where we live. Be prepared.

This book will do more than convince you of the coming stock market crash. It will show you how to build your own personal financial ark that will make sure you not only weather the storm but profit from it. And profit well.
