Santin celebrates 50 years in theatre

Veteran actor Santin Gunawardene completes 50 years as an artiste in the fields of Theatre, TV & Films. He commenced his acting career in late Mr. Henry Jayasena’s stagedrama “ Janelaya” in 1962. Thereafter he played in almost all of Henry Jayassena’s productions.

The most memorable role he acted was that of  Simon Sashawa in Henry’s Hunuwataye Kathawa “ where he played the role opposite late Manel Jayasena (Grusha) with exquisite finesse for a continuous period of 28 years.  He also acted in late Mr. Simon Nawagaththegama’s most popular drama “ Suba Saha Yasa” in the forceful character of Suba which was equally ingenious and highly appreciative, proving the capabilities of his acing prowess.

He also acted in many tele dramas.  In the tele drama “Senehewanthayo”  directed by Nalan Mendis,Santin played a very convincing role of a devoted father of four children, striving to make both ends meet by supplying milk to the nearby waluwwa and how he managed to bear and overcome the severe mental stress when his son got entangled in a love affair with the walawwa Hamu’s daughter. That character was loved and appreciated by millions of viewers throughout the country.

A felicitation ceremony in his honor has been organized by the Tower Hall Theatre Foundation on the 30th of May at 3 pm at Savsiripaya auditorium at Wijerama mawatha Colombo.
