“A CELEBRATION THRU’ LIGHT”, marks the maiden effort by a group of individuals from all walks of life coming together in presenting their photographic pursuits covering nature/wild life, portraiture, landscapes and open categories.

“Our group consisting of professionals in medicine, engineering, law, IT, finance, banking, architecture, HR, education, along-with servicemen, house- wives and students, are in pursuit of photography as a hobby, a profession or as a pleasing distraction that helps bring about a life balance to an otherwise stressful life”, said Dr.Vickum Senanayake, Secretary – Exhibition Committee.

Speaking to the media, Mr.Priyanke Perera, President – Exhibition Committee, stated that the photographs to be exhibited has been considered best in their respective class, having been selected by an elite panel of five professional judges, out of 470 photographs submitted by the group.

The organizing committee has also added flavor and competitiveness to the process by having the judges pick winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each category, while recognizing the potential with the award of certificates of merit. “It’s my fervent belief that our group will continue to “click” and improve their learning through the years with experience”, concluded Mr.Perera.

“I feel truly honoured and happy to be invited to participate at the opening of the Exhibition, “A Celebration thru’ Light”, organized by a group of energetic and passionate individuals – whom I understand come from very different backgrounds and pursuits in life, but are now knit together by their common interest in photography and the yearning to bring, into the open, their creative talent and new found knowledge through a display of their very own photographs. I am looking forward to being at what promises to be a memorable event”, stated Dr.Ifthikar Ismail, the Chief Guest issuing a statement to the souvenir being published to mark the event.

Mr.Panduka De Silva, who is the Academic Director of the Photographic Society of Sri Lanka, under whose guidance and mentoring this group learnt the fine art and techniques in photography, expressed his happiness that the group on their own organized and embarked on many photo-expeditions in preparation for this exhibition.

“This is what needs to be continued to preserve the dedication to photography to be sustained. Let me take this opportunity to applaud this group of photo-enthusiasts for not only exhibiting their work which have been of very high standards, but making this a unique experience for all via a competition”, concluded Mr.De Silva.

The exhibition is to be held at the Memorial Art Centre of Lionel Wendt, 18, Guildford Crescent, Colombo 7, from the 15th – 17th June, ’12. The Opening Ceremony would be based strictly on invitation, while the exhibition would be open for public viewing on the 16th and 17th of June, from 9.00a.m.-7.30p.m.
