The popular ‘Oshin’ tele series is now being telecast on Rupavahini again from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm on weekdays. The tele series dubbed in Sinhala has been edited to 85 episodes.

The late Titus Totawatte had handled the dubbing of the entire series with the assistance of Athula Ransirilal.

More than 400 local dubbing artistes including Grace Ariyawimal, Mercy Edirisinghe,,  Rasadari Peiris, Paboda Sandeepani, Kusum Peiris, Parakrama Perera, Geetha Kanthi Jayakody and others had been involved in the tele drama which has been translated and telecast in more than 60 countries.

The story starts in 1983. Instead of attending the opening festivities for the 17th store, Oshin Tanokura decides to take a train trip. Her family is in a frenzy, not knowing where she might be. Oshin's grandson, Kei, remembers the story of the kokeshi doll she once told. Based on a hunch from the story, he goes on a trip of his own and catches up with Oshin. From there, the two of them begin a journey back, traveling through various parts of Japan including where she once lived years earlier, and starts remembering the difficult times she faced in her life.
