Seasoned musician Nalaka Anjana Kumara will hold his maiden musical concert ‘Anjana Ranjana’ at the Bishop’s College Auditorium, Colombo on December 14 at 6 pm.
In a tuneful career spanning 30 years, Nalaka Anjana Kumara has composed songs for several singers including veterans and amateurs.
“My maiden concert on December 14 will feature Pandit W. D. Amaradeva, Visharada Nanda Malini, Victor Rathnayake, Amarasiri Peiris, Deepika Priyadarshani, Pradeepa Dharmadasa, Nirosha Virajini, Kasun Kalhara, Krishantha Erandaka, Chandana Liyanarachchi, Kushani Sandarekha and Disna Atapattu who will sing songs set to tune by me,” Nalaka told Impulse, lamenting that he had failed to find a main sponsor for his concert despite it being creative, original and of superior quality.
“I tried my best to find a sponsor for this show, but unfortunately I failed to find anyone. A few of my friends have come forward to chip in with some monetary support. There is a big question mark about the people’s taste in this country. This show will also feature some of my guitar solos. This is my first attempt in my 30 year music career to hold a concert, but this is what people like us have to face. We are forced to swim against the tide. How can we dish out and cater to the people’s wholesome needs when we don’t get any support. I am the first musician to feature an experimental music piece in the country. It was telecast on Rupavahini. I will also launch a CD titled ‘Isolated Fingers’ during this event which will be compered by Vasantha Rohana ,” said Nalaka expressing his gratitude to all who helped him even in a small way, especially Nuwan Perera, Sudath Lakshman Rathnayake, Ranjith Balasuriya, Upali Ariyasiri and others.
Tickets will be available at Sarasavi Bookshop Nugegoda, Salaka-Senkada Union Place and at the gates. For more details contact: 0777 555474 / 0718-151162
