Janakaraliya goes to Badulla

After its journey in the Galle, Puttalam and Ampara districts Janakaraliya has now come to Badulla. The Janakaraliya mobile theatre has been installed at the playground of Badulla Central College. A lengthy drama festival has been arranged for school children and the general public which will continue till November 12.

A large number of children’s dramas, short and long dramas are scheduled to be performed at this festival.

Among the Janakaraliya drama productions performed at the festival are Parakrama Niriella’s ‘Charandas’, ‘Sekkuwa’, ‘Andaramal’, ‘Seethambara Pataya’ (written by Mangala Senanayake), ‘Deviova Gamana’, ‘Erikkalam Poo’, ‘Mayapattadai’, ‘Devaloha Payanam’, Ajanthan Shanthakumar’s ‘Parasthava’ (Translated by Prof. Tissa Kariyawasam from Antaon Chekov’s “The Proposal”) and ‘Kalyana Kathei’, Suneth Shanthapriya’s ‘Andura Saha Eliya’, Selvaraj Leelawathy and Ronika Chamalee’s Payanihal.

A Childrens’ play included in the festival is Somalatha Subasinghe’s ‘Thoppi Velenda’. ‘Duhun Ranga Soba’ a special cultural variety programme will be presented by the graduate trainees of the district secretary’s office of Badulla on November 12 as the last performance of the Janakaraliya Festival.

The Janakaraliya theatre arts programme will be conducted by Parakrama Niriella and Dilip Rohana. Full time members of the Janakaraliya drama group are Sumudu Mallawaarachchi, Ajanthan Shanthakumar, Dinesh Swarnasri Livera, Sarath Banagala, Rasaiya Logananthan, Palitha Abelal, Amila Dinesh, Thyagaraja Sivanesan, Arosha Tharangani, Ronika Chamali, Selvaraj Leelavathi, Inoka Lankapura, Chandani Malkanthi, Janitha Dissanayaka, Vijitha Hettige, Indika Madurage, Sarath Kongalage, Yasho Prashath are Geethika Priyadarshani.
