Ever since the trailer for Marvel’s The Avengers was released, people all over the world have been talking about it and wanting to watch it. The motion picture premiered on 10 May in Sri Lanka and is now screening at the Majestic City Cineplex in 3D.

The plot unfolds when Loki (Thor’s Brother) meets “the Other”, the leader of a warmongering alien race known as the Chitauri. In exchange for retrieving the Tesseract, a powerful energy source known for its immense powers, the Other promises Loki a Chitauri army that will help him take over Earth.

 

 

The Tesseract activates itself and opens a portal which sends Loki to Earth, thus enabling him to steal it and enslave Dr. Selvig, a physicist leading a team of researchers in discovering the Tesseract’s powers and several agents, including Clint Barton, to aid him in his getaway.

In an act of desperation Nick Fury sends agent Romanoff to summon Dr. Bruce Banner from India and Agent Coulson to meet Tony Stark to review the work of Dr. Selvig, while Fury himself sets off to meet Captain Steve Rodgers in what is known as the “Avengers Initiative.”

 

 

I will stop spoiling it for you now! Moving on to a review of the movie, it is definitely one of the best super hero movies that have been released and the effects are simply amazing.

As for watching it in 3D, most of the movie does not have many 3D effects and that is mainly because the film was shot in 2D and converted to 3D during post production. But it is definitely worth your time watching it.

The Avengers is the highest grossing film based on comics and the 12th film in cinematic history to earn more than $1 billion. It crossed the $1-billion-mark in 19 days, matching the record for speed previously set by Avatar and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

 

 

As for the acting - with a star studded cast you cannot expect anything but the best. But one actor that stands out extremely well is Robert. Downey Jr. nothing short of pure excellence is his acting skills.
