'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' sequel will not be released in 2013 as first thought.

The movie - entitled 'The Girl Who Played with Fire' - was originally intended to hit cinemas next year, but a source has confirmed to EW.com the script for the thriller is still being worked on and nothing will start until that has been completed.

Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara - who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the first film - are both on board to return to the film series.

David Fincher is also thought to be back on board as the director of the picture, but it has not yet been confirmed.

The first movie was a remake of the Swedish film starring Noomi Rapace, who has since gone on to star in the 'Sherlock Homes' follow-up and 'Alien' prequel 'Prometheus', despite knowing no English just a few years ago.

It is the latest in a string of sequels to have suffered delays - 'Star Trek 2' had to be delayed by a year and an 'Avatar' sequel is now not expected until 2015 at the earliest.
