Veteran actress and film producer Geetha Kumarasinghe last week launched four of her film productions in the DVD format.

Among the movies are award-winning Palama Yata, Loku Duwa, Anuragaye Ananthaya and Salambak Handai – which were produced by Geetha who also played the lead roles in them opposite heroes like Sanath Gunathilaka, Gamini Fonseka, Lucky Dias, Jackson Anthony, Joe Abeywickrema and others. All four films come in one pack priced at Rs. 1000.

Addressing the event to mark the launch Geetha said though most producers including herself had sold TV rights of their films, the producers had the right to reproduce them in the DVD format and archive them for the future generations.

“This will also help us reach international markets too. All proceeds generated from this DVD sale will be utilised for the welfare of children, mothers and schools in the Galle District through the Geetha Kumarasinghe Foundation. I am thankful to Kumara Liyanagama who produced this DVD pack,” said Geetha while veteran filmmaker Sumitra Peries told the gathering about her friendship with Geetha that exceeded 30 years.

She also recalled how Geetha’s ‘Loku Duwa’ directed by Sumitra missed the chance to represent the Cannes Film Festival despite being selected.

Award-winning actor Sanath Gunathilaka said the unique feature in Geetha was that she invested all what she earned from films back into the film industry itself.

Jackson Anthony said archiving movies in the DVD format will help the young generation learn about the history of our cinema.

Lucky Dias recalled how he first acted opposite Geetha in a single episode tele drama, long before he did Baladeva in Yashorawaya. (RU)
