Deepika to sing in Bangaldesh this week

Renowned Sri Lankan singing icon Visharada Deepika Priyadarshani will be flying to Bangladesh tomorrow to participate in a musical performance scheduled for October 19 at the Shilpakala National Theatre in Dhaka.

The fund-raiser event has been organsied by the Sri Lanka Women’s Association (Seva Vanitha) – Dhaka together with the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Bangladesh.

Deepika will be joined by Dr. Rohana Weerasinghe who will handle the music orchestration in Bangladesh together with musicians Suresh Maliyadde, Kalani Perera,  Dhananjaya Somasiri, Mahendra Pasqual and Janaka Bogoda.

The Sri Lanka Women’s Association (Seva Vanitha)–Dhaka is affiliated to the High Commission of Sri Lanka and aims to promote social cultural, health, educational and humanitarian welfare. The Dhaka unit also strives to further strengthen friendly relations between the people of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The beneficiaries of its welfare activities include: The Early Childhood Development Projects under the Shishu Academy, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Bangladesh and The Children’s Secretariat, Ministry of Child Development and Women’s Affairs, Sri Lanka.

Deepika’s tour to Bangladesh comes weeks before she is to receive the 2012 Gusi Peace Prize in Manila for her song ‘Saroja’.

The Gusi International Awards Night will be held at the world class Philippine International Convention Center on November 28, 2012 in Manila Philippines. The Gusi Peace Prize is Asia's foremost awarding body and among the leading in the world today.

It recognises the most brilliant examples of those working towards the attainment of peace and respect for human life and dignity. The Gusi Peace Prize brings out the best of human achievements, ideals and values.
