                                           A Housewife's Diary

SUNDAY  This is a quotation on Fatherhood from Bill Cosby , famous for his  Cosby Show on TV. "Inspite of the 6000 manuals on child rearing available  in the book stores, bringing up children is still a dark continent , and no one really knows anything. You just need a lot of  love, luck and courage. Raising children is an incredibly hard and risky business , in which no cumulative wisdom is gained. Each generation repeats  the mistakes  the previous one made. " Finally, he says " Hold them very close and then let them go".
MONDAY  Believe it or not, the humble Bubble Gum based on "Chicle", the sticky gum on the Sapodilla tree, is one of the fastest moving consumer goods in U.S.A. About 60 per cent of what goes into the gum is sugar. Sapodilla is known as "Chico" in India, and in some South American countries. The latex is tapped from the  grown tree rather like rubber.
TUESDAY  For perspiration stains around shirt collars, try this little hint. Wrap a piece of laundry soap in a piece of nylon net with small holes and secure with rubber band. Rub it across dampened soiled collars before you actually wash the clothes. You will find it removes dirt marks surprisingly well.
WEDNESDAY  Baked Pumpkin (Wataka). Made by our son-in-law as a side dish to serve with the chicken. Cut pumpkin into cubes. Place in baking pan. Sprinkle olive oil over. Bake 20 minutes till slightly coloured. Add spinach. Slice onions and sprinkle over. Bake some more time. Take out from oven and sprinkle tiny cubes of cheese over it.

THURSDAY  This is something I read in a health newsletter. In which position do you sleep? If you sleep on your stomach or on your left side, you are putting pressure on your heart  with the entire body weight, while the heart has to continue pumping blood as usual. This additional burden wears the heart out  more quickly. Think about it. You spend more than one third of your  life sleeping. To reduce the strain on your heart, sleep on your right side, or on your back. This simple technique will add years  to your life.
FRIDAY  Rev. Robert Farrar Capon on home made soups. "Soups are stock raised  to the height of its natural eminence, rejoicing in the pleasures of other creatures company. Do anything that comes into your head, except oversalt. It is impossible to go wrong".
SATURDAY  "When wealth is gone, little is lost; when health is gone, something is lost; but when character is gone, all is lost!".
