Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are to co-produce historical drama 'Race to the South Pole'.

The acting pair will team up for the Warner Bros. project through their production company Pearl Street, with Pete Glantz in line to direct the motion picture and Ben's brother Casey Affleck also attached.

The film will tell the true story of two explorers, Englishman Robert Falcon Scott - who will be played by Casey - and Norwegian Roald Amundsen, in the early 1900s and their attempt to be the first person to reach the South Pole, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Ben and Matt - who are known to be good friends and recently became neighbours again after the 'Invictus' star purchased a $15 million mansion in Los Angeles - have appeared in a number of films together such as 1997 drama movie 'Good Will Hunting', which Casey also starred in.

Pearl Street productions' forthcoming films include a movie based on Whitey Bulger, a Boston organised crime figure, who is set to be played by Matt with Ben directing the motion picture.

Matt recently wrapped on 'Promised Land', which he produced, stars in and co-wrote, while Ben is gearing up for the release of political drama 'Argo', which sees him take on the lead role and direct.
