‘Villa 46’ - A Lavish Masterpiece by the Sea

Overlooking a scenic backdrop of the famous Hikka beach, Villa 46 sits with its magnificent structure portraying a lavish boutique villa. Solely owned by Sri Lankan cricketing legend Marvan Atapattu and his wife Neluni, the property is situated a few kilometres away from the Hikkaduwa town. Travelling along the Southern Expressway, it takes approximately one hour and 20 minutes to arrive at the location. Ranked as the 46th test cricket player in the country, the number 46 is of much significance to him and in turn the property was named ‘Villa 46’ in honour of his cricketing career. 

As one enters this masterpiece, one would mistake it for an old colonial bungalow which has been restored with much care so as to maintain its antiquity. A pond with lotuses welcomes the guests and as one enters they are directed towards a lobby area with a grand cosy-looking sofa set that would make you sit and observe the scenery ahead, for a split second. 

Villa 46 comprise four rooms equipped with modern amenities including tea/coffee making facilities, cable TV, A/C and a safe. Each room also comprises an attached bathroom with all toiletries including hot/cold water baths etc. Unlike other boutique hotels or guest houses, Villa 46 encourages more groups or families to stay over for the simple reason of giving them a homely atmosphere. 

Privacy of guests is a main concern for the management and therefore they have taken one extra step to ensure that the guests are staying at a home away from home. 

The property is a two-storey structure and one could find two rooms in the ground floor and the first floor. The rooms on either side of the ground floor are located adjacent to a staircase and are accompanied by two doors which the guests can open/close as per their wish. This in turn allows them to maintain their privacy and enjoy their stay, like at home. 

The rooms are named after four flowers namely Araliya, Orchid, Manel and Nelum and it will not be difficult to find them since the interior is decorated with colourful paintings of each flower next to its respective room. 

Dining at Villa 46 is also quite interesting because you can enjoy a good meal overlooking the sea before you. Currently a choice of Sri Lankan and Western cuisine is given for breakfast in addition to a snack menu but in time to come, guests can enjoy lunch and dinner as well. 

If one prefers to enjoy a meal outside the premises they can again feel free to do so.BBQ and private dining are also options which will be made available on request.Adjoining the dining area is the swimming pool that again invites guests to have a dip at any time during the day. 

The first floor also comprises a TV lounge which can be used by children while the adults have a drink at the bar adjoining it. The TV lounge is equipped with a DVD library and cable TV options which the guests can use as they wish. The bar is located adjacent to the balcony so if one wishes to enjoy a drink with some fresh sea breeze they are more than welcome to do so. 

Once in Hikkaduwa,enjoying the town’s excursions is a given. One could spend time surfing, kayaking, scuba diving, canoeing, snorkelling, cycling, playing beach sports such as beach volleyball or even shopping at the Hikkaduwa town. 
Guests can also visit the scared Seenigama Devalaya, coral sanctuary, Hikkaduwa harbour, the turtle hatchery and the community tsunami museum which are in close proximity to the villa or are situated a couple of minutes away.
