No plans this weekend? Visit the latest hangout spots in and around Colombo with your close friends or family and spice it up as you wish. With Halloween round the corner there are many events happening. So why not drop in for some fun? Here are a few places you can hangout and a few things you could do this weekend.. Enjoy! 


Hangout Spots 

Chapter One: One of the newest additions to the Colombo dining scene situated in Battaramulla with quite a beautiful set-up. Known for its range of fusion food Chapter One offers dish types from rice to seafood specialties to pasta, sandwiches and burgers. Beverages include iced tea, milkshakes and many more items. A live band plays during the evenings to entertain the guests and it is a good place for a date or a hangout with friends or family. 

Café Kumbuk: A cosy hangout spot for those who would like to grab a healthy meal. Located in Horton Place, Café Kumbuk offers an interesting menu to choose from which include food such as toasts, pancakes, wraps and burgers. Beverages include green tea, fresh fruit juices, coffee and smoothies. It is an ideal place for those who would like to have a decent hang out with friends.

Diyatha Uyana: A one-stop location to hang out, go for a walk/ jog with friends or do shopping at the various stalls put up by self-employed vendors. These items include flowers, fresh fruits, vegetable, gardening equipment and many more. Also available at this place is a food court accompanied with a large seating area which is almost full towards the evenings. 


Movie 

This Diwali, Karan Johar is back with his new romantic film ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in lead roles. The movie will be premiered at the Majestic Cineplex from October 28. 

“It is not a conventional love story or love triangle, but a story about unrequited love. It's a film that dwells deeply on relationships, heartbreaks and how love completes you, defines you and yet leaves you wanting for more. I have never had, in my entire career, a film that has come to me so fast, so organically and so from within," stated Karan Johar. 

The storyline revolves around a woman (Anushka Sharma) who still reeling from the effects of a recent breakup develops a budding romance with a man (Ranbir Kapoor) who loves to sing. 

The screening times and dates are as follows: 

Majestic Cineplex:  Mon -Thurs : 10.15 1.15 4.15 7.15 and Fri/Sat: 10.15 pm 

Empire Cineplex: Mon - Thursday: 1.30 4.30 7.30,  Fri/Sat: 10.30 pm and Sat/Sun: 10.30 am 


Weekend Happenings (in Colombo) 

Lite Fright Night @ Hilton Residencies: This weekend is all about Halloween and if you want to spend your Halloween in style, drop in to Lite Fright Night at the Hilton Residencies. The party will commence from 8pm and will take you through an eerie tour, bumping in to spooky creatures as you enter the Witch’s Lair. (Entrance fee: Rs. 1000). 

Affair at Ward Place Hotel @ The Lionel Wendt: Veteran dramatist Jith Peiris is back with his new comedy ‘Affair at Ward Place Hotel’ this time involving a young state minister who encounter a series of chaos. He has come to a posh hotel in Colombo to spend the evening with his mistress but then he finds out that he is not the only person there who has a scandal to hide. The play will be staged at the Wendt on October 28 and 29 and tickets are available at the Wendt. 

Magnificat @ St. Andrew’s Scots Kirk: The Colombo Philharmonic choir is ready to present ‘Magnificat’ – a programme of sacred classical music on October 29. ‘Dixit et Magnificat KV 193’ is a masterpiece by Mozart which will be performed at this programme and it is the first time that it will be played in Sri Lanka. The choir will also perform Haydn’s Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo, also known as the Kleine Orgelsolomesse (Little Organ Mass). Halloween @ Chapter One: Halloween is not only about dressing up. It could also be more interesting with creepy-looking food that would make your bones freeze. Eat if you dare at this interesting event which will be held on October 30 from 7pm- 11pm, while watching a horror movie on big screen and listening to live music by Cold Sweat. Parade in with the spookiest costume and win a special award for the best outfit. A photobooth awaits those who would like to pose with Halloween-themed props and make your Halloween a memorable one. Weekend Happenings (out of Colombo) 

Beach Rave Fiesta @ Jetwing Blue, Negombo: The Rotary International Foundation is on the verge of stepping on to its 100th year and in view of this, the Rotary Club of Negombo has made arrangements to celebrate it with twin events on October 29. The club will be organizing a Motor Rally and ‘Beach Rave Fiesta’ a beach party with popular local stars in the evening. The Motor Rally will feature 100 vehicles and will be flagged off at 8am from Negombo Municipal Council Grounds. The beach party will commence from 6pm onwards at the Jetwing Blue Beach where popular local bands and guest performers will entertain the crowds. For more details contact : 0772344464.
