views 1427Putting Sri Lanka on the map yet again, actress Nimmi Harasgama has been nominated for the Best Drama performance award at the UK’s National Television Awards 2021 for her portrayal of nurse Mari Rodriguez in the hit UK TV series The Good Karma Hospital.
The Good Karma Hospital which is now in its third series is filmed in Sri Lanka and Nimmi Harasgama plays the role of nurse Mari Rodriguez since its inception.
Nimmi has been nominated alongside some major actors such as Olivia Colman and Gillian Anderson (The Crown), Hugh Laurie (Roadkill), Tahar Rahim and Jenna Colman to name a few.
Commenting on her nomination Nimmi said “I am just honoured and humbled to be included in a list of such amazing actors”.
An actor and writer Nimmi started her acting career at a young age. She has also starred in several Sri Lankan films and won the Best Performance/Best Actress at several international and national award ceremonies - these included the 2004 International Film Festival of Las Palmas and 2006 SIGNIS Salutation Awards Ceremony.
The medical drama series produced by Tiger Aspect Productions follows the life of doctor Ruby Walker who arrives in India looking for a job and a distraction from her heartbreak. She anticipates the sunshine and picture-perfect beaches, but not the realities of work at an under-resourced hospital.
