Google Traffic
(Get to your destination faster!)
It’s the latest addition to Sri Lanka’s technological developments. The combination of Google maps and Google Traffic makes it that much easier for anyone who steps out of the house. There will no longer be any surprise traffic on the way! You can use alternative routes and times to avoid the headache of Traffic.
And it’s a very simple code. Green is for when the traffic is good and red for when it’s really bad and orange for in between. One glance at the map and it’s all very clear. It even shows the construction sites, so that you can steer away from those roads.
Office rush hour
The only warning I may add is that when you are following the maps make sure you check the signs when making the turns. And because many roads within Colombo are now made one way make sure you don’t go the wrong direction!
The pictures show the traffic level during the school rush hours in the afternoon and office rush hours in the evening of around and within Colombo. Since the traffic is bad anyway at that time at least you can choose to use roads where it’s comparatively less.

Earlier when the traffic got really bad due to a demonstration or bad weather the only way you were warned is through news alerts that you may have subscribed to your phones. But now you can choose when to get the information and check out the routes before you get onto the road!
And of course you can easily download the app to your smart phones, tabs and desktops. So that it’s accessible from anywhere. To use it you can go to Google Maps and hit the button on the left and click to turn the traffic layer on or you can just Google 'traffic' and the map should come up! It is simple as that!
I am generally not very tech savvy and updated when it comes to the latest app or newest feature. But Google Traffic is definitely something I am excited about. It will be one improvement that will help anyone who chooses to use it. I can guarantee it!
