This is the second installment of the top upcoming games of the year. Naturally, I’ve included a number of FPS, TPS and RTS games in this segment. If you guys have any personal favourites, do let me know!
Tomb Raider
This is a reimagining of the Tomb Raider series. Judging by the amazing game trailers and game play trailers, this game promises to be very exciting. Players will take on the role of Lara, who is shipwrecked on an mysterious island where she is forced to defend herself against the natives. The plot is decidedly darker and the combat is far more brutal than previous games.
The game basically follows Lara’s development into the character players will eventually see in subsequent games. Hence, players get a first-hand experience of how Lara develops her combat and cognitive skills throughout the game.
The great audio-visuals coupled together with the interesting learning curve, which includes different stages of combat skills and weapons, gives the game a very realistic feeling. Now you know why it is on the most wanted list.
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Another reboot of sorts. Aliens: Colonial Marines involves players taking on the role of marines sent out to investigate a disaster in space. Unsurprisingly, one turns out to be a simple reconnaissance and rescue mission turns into a horror story with a xenomorph infestation and rapidly dwindling squads and supplies.
Players will be forced to fight their way through the spaceships and keep their fingers on the trigger at all times. All the classic unit types and special weapons (including the smart gun) will be included in the game, providing players with a lot of variety and heart-pounding action.
Command & Conquer: Generals 2
This is probably my most anticipated RTS game. I really think the original installment of the game (followed by an expansion pack) was the best C&C game ever because it featured relatively more realistic technology and resource mining skills.
We don’t know much about the new game but we know that it will feature three basic factors, which come with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Based on the little sneak peak the trailer offered, we know some confirmed unites include an Avatar-like helicopter, hardened battle tanks and improvised mobile machine gun systems.
Company of Heroes 2
This game has already won a number of awards and the original installment was a major hit at the time. The new game focuses on a different perspective of the war and while many of the basic gameplay features are in place, there is a lot new units, combat capabilities and in-game add-ons.
The game is RTS and like many other WW2 themed games, features a variety of interesting units and weapons system. In addition, the game also features an enhanced AI system and a better combat management system. This is certainly the type of game that players would choose if they are into serious history-based RTS games.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 will feature many of the classic elements of the first game. The game has won pundits for the amazing degree of reality they have strived to integrate into the game.
Short of getting your own sniper rifle and practicing, one could argue that this is the best sort of experience you could hope for, where players are forced to take into account all the real world elements before pulling trigger before each shot.
Moreover, there are added co-ordination features and impressive in-game cameras and replays that are sure to enhance the thrill of the game.
