SWARA, a movie that revolves around Narmadha, a renowned musician, who tests positive for HIV and her relationships with the seven different characters: Justin, Padma, Vihara, Nimanthi, Joe, Rohan and Anjali. This was a project that came to life back in 2011 and was waiting on the shelves for the past 12 years to be screened.
It’s sad to see Sri Lankan films taking a back seat with all the foreign screenings that are available here, but we need to take the time to go see these films.
Swara (Seven Notes) was released in local cinemas on 1st December, coinciding with World AIDS Day. The movie carries a powerful message on humanity, highlighting the themes of hope and resilience. Swara was produced by internationally acclaimed Nita Fernando and Manohan Nanayakkara. Directed by Sanjaya Nirmal and released in 2012, Swara is set to screen after a hiatus of 12 years. The film gained high acclaim at international film festivals but wasn’t released to the local circuit due to various setbacks.
