Sustainable Fashion Runway

Day one of Mercedes Benz fashion began with the sustainable runway show. A variety of designers showcased their collections which ranged from swimwear, tropical clothing to winter clothing. 
 
Many of the designers, graduates of the Academy of Design pulled off a stunning show which displayed their fashion forward thinking versatility and ingénue
 
Designers Nithya, Lonali, Dhakshyani, Tarja, Santhanam Gallery, Dinushi, Tharushi Dabare and the assorted designers of the AOD fashion label Fashionmarket.lk stood out with their eye catching collections. 
 
Batik, dumbara weave, crochet, and hand loom were some of the artisanal techniques employed to give it a Subtle Sri Lankan vibe. 
Day One finished in a high note and I can't wait to see what day 2 unveils tonight.
 

Prabath by Prabath Samarasooriya

Prabath Samarasooriya displayed a great selection of prints and layered clothing more suited to the cooler climes of the west.

 

Amesh Wijesekera

Amesh Wijesekera opted for luxe gold hues and textured fabric which showed his maturity in designing textiles with varied textures.

 

Nithyaby Nithya Lamahewa

Nithya’s collection of batik fused with a touch of classic Americana displayed her ability to think well out the box.

 

House of Lonali by Lonali Rodrigo

Lonali presented a monochromatic collection with pops of silver in trendy separates.

 


Zarif - Dhakshayani Jayarajah 

‘Colour, colour, colour’ screamed this collection which had ensembles in rich jewellery box tones in stylish silhouettes.

Tarja displays her fashion maturity each time she unveils a new collection. Her swimwear was bold, her wraps on point and we loved the fact that she remained true to her Sri Lankan roots and incorporated the traditional Sri Lankan devil mask in to her batik collection.

Nilakshi Gamage presented an interesting collection of separates in heavy textured fabric more suited for the winter climate.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Sanathana Batik Gallery by Kanchana Fernando

Sanathana Gallery unveiled a collection of batik sarees inspired by geometric shapes in a varied colour palette.
