Day 2 of HSBC Colombo Fashion Week 2014 explodes with colour

The second day of the main HSBC Colombo Fashion week provided a riot of colour with several designers showcasing vibrant and colourful designs. Day two saw Upeksha, Yasasurie, Gihan Ediriweera, Deneth Piyumakshie, Otara, Jenjum Gadi, Colombo Jewellery Stores, KT Brown and Rizwan Beyg dazzle the audience with a brilliant combination of colour and stylish designs.

U by Upeksha

Showing at Colombo Fashion Week for her fourth time Upeksha’s collection is mainly white with some sheers in subtle colour. Her standard floral motif takes the front stage in this collection.

“This time I have worked with a selection of soft colours and I have taken an artisanal approach”

Yasisurie

Making her debut appearance at Colombo Fashion Week, the theme for her collection is Consciousness. Using symbols in sacred geometry she has used laser cut technology incorporating these motifs.

“I have used pure cotton with a satin finish for my collection which is modern yet effortless”

G by Gihan

Showing for the third time at CFW, Gihan specialises in fabric dyeing art. Tie dye and dip dye used on natural fibre fabrics form his signature collection.

“Colour is the key element to my collection and I have stuck to simple silhouettes”

Deneth

The flag bearer for Cheetha, a traditional Sri Lankan printed textile, her collection features extensive use of Cheetha. Currently in Paris she is represented by Laksmi.

“Our collection for 2014 has been inspired by ‘love’ and we aim to reinvent the Cheetha for others to wear” - Laksmi

Otara

Showing at CFW for the second time, Sri Lanka’s most notable fashion entrepreneur launches her collection of jeans and tops in designs that keep pushing the boundaries.

“The designs in my collection are pushing boundaries, but that is OK as we are all Forever Young!”

KT Brown

Kanchana is no stranger to CFW and this time her collection is based on the Spanish Civil War. Her silhouettes are simple but dramatic.

“I have been inspired by the Spanish Civil war which has many parallels to what we went through”

Jenjum Gadi

Indian designer Jenjum makes his debut at CFW. From humble roots in a village where his mother still lives, Jenjum is now enjoying the fruits of his labour with his own label Jenjum Gadi design.

“I used a lot of spring prints using various insects which was the basis of my inspiration”

CJS

The only jeweller to feature at CFW, Colombo Jewellery Stores marks its ninth appearance at CFW. Showcasing their collection encompassing the lustre and glamour reminiscent of the Galle Fort in all its vintage glory, CJS personifies the life and times of the City they call HOME.

“Our Home Town collection contains Cuffs, Earrings and Pendants which feature pearls, diamonds, emeralds and colourful gemstones fashioned in to masterpieces of design”

Rizwan Beyg

Returning to CFW once more Pakistani designer Rizwan Beyg showcased his collection based on the highly decorated trucks in his native country. Intricate and colourful artwork digitally printed on garments form the basis of his Digi Truck collection.
