MOGA online fashion store

The world of fashion is ever changing and many designers try to add something new and make it more exciting. Azahn Munas, a young bud with a passion to set a trend in the fashion arena, too has introduced his online fashion brand, MOGA to raise funds for a charitable cause. Speaking to Daily Mirror Life, Azahn spoke about the brand, its objective and services.

Give us a brief introduction about yourself.

My name is Azahn Munas. I am 22 years old and have recently completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Melbourne, Australia. Born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka, I moved to Australia with my family when I was seven years old. My journey and experience as a global citizen has exposed me to all sorts of people from various walks of life. I am so lucky to call Melbourne my home, a city filled with characters and people from so many different communities, backgrounds and cultures.

How did you come up with the idea of an online fashion store?

MOGA is a fashion brand and social enterprise that I have been working on for the past 2 years. The brand designs and sells headscarves and shawls online for women around the world. Embracing old traditions with modern trends, MOGA prides itself on creating innovative fashion that is unique, bold, and daring, celebrating the wearer’s individuality and personal style. I came up with the idea when I noticed a gap in the market for young women who wanted to wear the headscarf and experiment with fashion but did not have anything that quite fit their eccentric and daring personalities. I also really loved the fluidity and versatility of the fabric.

Why did you choose the name MOGA?

MOGA was actually a name my brother came up with. I really liked the ethnic tone and sound to it. I wanted to use a name that didn’t restrict us to a particular area, trend or style but could give us as much freedom as we wanted with our designs and creations. The brand is only just being introduced to the world.  Our debut collection called SPECTRA will be released early this year but can currently be pre-ordered on our website www.moga-fashion.com

Why just an interest in headscarves and shawls? Will there be other additions in future?

Headscarves in particular have been a rather controversial topic as of late. We want to remind people, however, that a headscarf or a shawl is a rectangular piece of fabric and ultimately everyone has the right to wear it in whatever way they choose to, whether it be around their neck, on their head or round their waste. We would like MOGA to become an accessories brand that will branch out into bags, belts, sarongs and fragrances but for the timebeing, we will stick to shawls.

Within how many days will products reach the destination country?

Between 5-15 business days depending on where the order is placed. We do international shipping to almost every country in the world so it really depends on where the order is coming from.

Why did you want to contribute to charity?

Currently we are donating 20% of all profits to help send young girls to secondary school in some of the world’s most volatile regions where sadly they are not given the same opportunity to learn. In terms of the brand’s perspective this really made sense to us because our product is about helping women look and feel good about themselves. With our CSR policy our customers not only get to feel good but also help other women who aren’t as fortunate as they have a chance at a better life.

What about feedback from customers?

As we are a new brand, feedback from customers have been relatively limited. The few responses we have gotten on social media and direct messaging have been unanimously positive. People seem to really love the bold colours and empowering message behind the brand. Pre-order sales from our website have been very strong and we anticipate our designs to sell rather quickly.

Message to youngsters who want to take up an entrepreneurial path like you?

Never underestimate the power of collaboration. It is nearly impossible to start a new business entirely on your own in the creative industry. Whether you are working with a web developer, stylist or fashion designer, it is always a great thing to surround yourself with creative people who can offer criticism or feed back to make your work better. Ultimately, we live in the digital age where you can work with people from the other side of the world with the click of a button. I would say to use this to your advantage and get inspired by what people are doing in different cultures and communities so you can create something that has real meaning and value to it.

Future plans for MOGA?

I want MOGA to become a community or movement of like minded people who have a shared vision to make a difference in the world. Ideally, we would like to share stories and spotlight the incredible things women do all over the world. Once we sell our first few lines of scarves, it would be great to create a short film or documentary to see where the money we donated goes towards and who benefits from it and share some of these incredibly powerful stories with our fans.
