Plaid is a design which dates back many years and yet it was quite exciting to see this trend having a strong presence on the Fall 2013 runways. What was even more exciting was that the trend had evolved from its old fashioned style to introduce new styles, cuts and creative uses for the print.

This print is being used not only on skirts, which was the usual, but also on dresses, jackets, pants, hand bags, shoes, etc. Stella McCartney drew inspiration from classic British menswear for her fall collection, presenting a mannish, boxy plaid jacket with a colour palette made up of red, green and white.

The fall 2013 runways showcased plaid being paired up with pinstripes, tweeds and other eye-catching prints and colours, even the bizarre combination of colourful floral and leopard prints for a hip take on the classic style.

The plaid fabric was mixed even with leather which was quite unusual yet daring which added a healthy dose of modernity to the mix. Another take on the print was pairing plaid knits and blouses with glittering sequin skirts.

When buying plaid for your wardrobe, must keep in mind the type of fabric that is being chosen and whether it is wearable. Sheer silk, chiffon and other transparent fabrics are great for the heat, but if you spend the majority of your time in wet and cold regions, you might consider heavier fabrics.

The plaid pencil skirts have always been worth an investment and a must have back in the day and yet can be seen to have made a great come back and it would be even more exciting to match it up with the modern styles that have been introduced.

With so many options at hand it would be safe to say bring in the revolutionized plaid!.
