This pop up will be the latest of a series of restaurant pop-ups hosted by Botanik which aims to highlight local home cooks and kitchens that share Botanik’s commitment to localisation and diversity.
“Jaffna food is all about people gathering together, sitting down and having a meal as one unit,” said Thushara Innisathamby, who runs 'My Sister's Kitchen'.
Thushara will be presenting a family-style spread that consists of additions such as the famous Jaffna Crab Curry, Sura Varai, Mutton Bone Soup and Chilled Payasam topped with Cashew for the patrons of Botanik over this weekend-long celebration of Jaffna and its cuisine.
This event will also feature an exquisite cocktail menu celebrating local ingredients such as Nelli from Jaffna along with a tapas menu that contains an eclectic selection of food such as Tempered Tail of Prawns with Curry Powder and one of Thushara’s favourites, the Stuffed Bitter Gourd with Minced Prawns.
The event is set to take place on the 4th, 5th and 6th of March at Botanik Bistro and Bar located at No 7, Hospital Street, Colombo 01 and is priced at Rs 4000 per person which includes a dinner spread and a drink. The hosts encourage patrons to purchase a minimum of two tickets as the food will be presented in sharing plates as Jaffna food after all is about bringing people together.
“The reason why My Sister's Kitchen was founded by my brother, was to let everyone enjoy the true flavours of Jaffna which we enjoyed at home day in and day out and to bring to the table recipes from our grandparents and the stories they shared over each meal.
This time we wanted to add a spin on the Jaffna food with the boys at Botanic, we will be jazzing up our most requested dishes off our menu. We have even created some cocktails that would pair well with our authentic Jaffna flavours, using the spirits which are famous in the North. Come enjoy this new experience” said Thushara.
