Waffles : Round 2


We tried out sweet flavoured waffle toppings on our second round of waffles, which turned out to be a rewarding experience overall. Both Coffee Stop at Cinnamon Grand and Jagro offered toppings that the sweet-toothed foodie will find to be definite treats. In what was a generous choice of both content and portion, both places served reasonably priced waffles, winding up as some of our stronger recommendations, which come with great value for money.


The third place on our round was M3 Café, which is a great little place you can try out: it has good food and good service in general but the waffle was rather disappointing.


 

Waffle with Nutella and Vanilla Ice Cream
Coffee Stop, Cinnamon Grand

Variety - Coffee Stop offers other toppings such as maple syrup and caramel syrup and add-ons such as nuts. Best to ask what items are available to go with your waffle.

Overall - Delving into a warm, crispy waffle generously slathered with Nutella and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream is really an incredible mood lifter on a busy weekday afternoon so we were beyond delighted to tuck into this treat. The entire combination of Nutella and vanilla ice cream screams comfort food to us, and if you aren’t looking for the regular mousse, cake or cupcake dessert at Coffee Stop, this is just perfect. And priced at Rs.400, it is proper value for money.



Waffle with Strawberries, Cream and Chocolate Topping  
Simply Strawberries by Jagro (Cotton Collection Dharmapala Mawatha premises)

Variety - None, although you can get strawberry topping instead of the chocolate topping.

Overall - This waffle is served with a generous dollop of cream along with huge strawberry halves and a drizzling of chocolate topping. It’s rather huge and most often, we find ourselves struggling to finish an entire waffle so you can even opt to share this with a friend. The strawberries coupled with the cream are a brilliant combination for waffles, and this gets our approval. Possibly one of the best items on the menu at Simply Strawberries by Jagro.


Waffle with Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce

Value for money - Low

Variety - None

Overall - The waffle wasn’t warm or crispy-it was actually slightly soggy which made for a terrible start. Then, the chocolate sauce tasted weird, because it wasn’t rich enough and tasted odd. Not recommended at all.
