Zumba Fitness® is the only Latin-inspired dance-fitness programme that blends red-hot international music, created by Grammy Award-winning producers, and contagious steps to form a "fitness-party" that is downright addictive. Since its inception in 2001 by Alberto “Beto”, the Zumba programme has grown to become the world's largest – and most successful – dance-fitness program with more than 12 million people of all shapes, sizes and ages taking weekly Zumba classes in over 110,000 locations across more than 125 countries.
“I am Priyadharshan Ramasamy (better known as Dharshan), a U.S. Certified ZUMBA Fitness Instructor. Zumba for me is all about having the participants going, with energetic moves, encouragement and helping individually if the movement needs correcting, while adding my own flavour to the workout, yelling “feel the music, Up-Up”, encouraging the class to clap, scream, shout out loud and join me, with all kinds of salsa dips, shoulder moves, hip roles and so on.”
Where exercising is concerned, while aerobics and gym routines are known to be quite effective, they’re also known to be quite a bore, which is why most people who take up these exercise routines tend to abandon their workouts gradually. But with Zumba, you lose weight; you keep your figure and have FUN all the while!
It helps to pep up your cardiac rate, loosens you up if you’re stressed out and even helps in the case of medical conditions which need exercise, like diabetes.
Each session includes Latin dances such as Salsa, Bachata, Meringue, Flamenco, Cumbia, Samba, Cha-Cha as well as belly dancing, waltz, a mix of Hip-Hop and of course, freestyle together with our very own Baila.
“It’s about 60% Latin dance and 40% mix dance, which is why the best part of Zumba is that you feel like you’re at a party”, but this doesn’t mean that you have to know how to dance in advance; but just to move to the beat!
Today, in our very first article/video, we are going to take you through a series of dance moves called “Balada” which is no doubt a lot of fun to do while working on your cardio!!
