views 923No matter how hard you try to stay away from those sinfully sweet treats there are times you just need to give in, after all, we are human! But having a few pieces of cake, or nibble here and there of a tasty cookie or chocolate doesn’t always have to make you feel guilty as vegan and gluten free options are slowly making their way into the market. One of the places where you can purchase these less sinful treats is at Délicieux.
Manesha Peiris, the lady behind Délicieux is known to bake some sinful goodies infused with lots of spirited beverages and if you’ve tried any of these you know you will go back for more as they are absolutely delicious.
If these sweet and sinful treats are not exactly your cup of tea, due to medical reasons or if it is because you are trying to remain health conscious, you can opt for her gluten free and vegan range of cakes, brownies and cookies.
My pick among the treats we sampled was the Vegan Fudge Brownie (a portion of 15 will cost you between Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000, depending on the ingredients used). Manesha eliminates the sugar in this recipe and uses honey therefore it isn’t overly sweet. The use of dark chocolate makes it quite a rich brownie while the crust on top gives it that authentic brownie feel. Due to the fact that it was dense in texture and in general quite a heavy treat, just one piece at a time was sufficient.
The other goodie I quite liked was her variation of the Bubblegum Blondie (between Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000). It is lactose free, has strawberry juice in it and is made using rice flour and eggs. So it isn’t vegan but it is gluten free. I felt that it is best enjoyed right out of the fridge as the flavours gel well together this way rather than at room temperature. She also does a Blackcurrant and Narang version of the Bubblegum Blondie, which, if you like to experiment with flavours might be worth a try.
The Raw Chocolate Brownie (between Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000) reminded me of a Snickers bar. It has a peanut and chocolate base, kitul treacle, dates and topped with dark chocolate.
If you’ve tried Délicieux’s Dark Chocolate Klubnika, and you’d like to try out her gluten free version of the same, keep in mind that it is very dense and far less cakey than you’d be used to. It does taste good but doesn’t have the same wow factor as the original version.
She creates an interesting take on cupcakes using sweet potato as a base and topped with dark chocolate. The base is light and has a hint of lemon but it isn’t as fluffy as a normal cupcake. It would be an interesting option to serve at a kid’s party or even to indulge in after a workout as you won’t feel completely guilty. This too is best eaten right out of the refrigerator.

Oct 02, 2014 at 12:00 amI have tasted her food. And am just being straightforward and i really hope these comments will help her improve her baking. Her foods are too much on sugar side and she might have to think about reducing the amount of sugar she uses in her icing and products. Her healthy range i felt like its a lot blank but then again am not healthy eater so may be am not the best one to comment about it. but if she is targeting the normal market with these products these are gonna be fail cause it needs some
