Since the heat seems to be relentlessly ruthless, we decided to go ahead and do yet another round of lime beverages on this week’s edition of V Try – U Buy.

One of those rewarding rounds, we stumbled upon several interesting finds this week. The Paddington serves a slushie, a rare find in Colombo. Secondly, an unbeatable combination of weather-friendly and healthy in the juice at Milk and Honey Cafe. Thirdly of course, our pick for this week, the perfect mojito at Cup Café. While we hope you find our ratings and comments useful, we also suggest you try the beverage out at one of these places, since otherwise, it would indeed be a regrettable loss!!

Lime and Mint Juice - Milk & Honey Café (12, Barnes Place, Colombo 07)

Price - Rs.280+ service charge

Variety - Milk & Honey Café does a wide range of cooling, refreshing juices so be sure to ask the lady behind the counter what’s available for the day.
Overall - Freshly blended, chilled and as refreshing as you can get, with well balanced natural flavours of the lime and mint. We didn’t think we could ever drink anything without sugar in it but this was just right without any in it. And ideal and healthy way to combat the heat.

Lime Slush Crush - The Paddington (36, Barnes Place, Colombo 07)

Price - Rs.395+ service charge and taxes
Value for money - average
Taste - ***
Variety - Lime and mint, strawberry, watermelon, passion fruit.
Overall - A most ideal slushie served in a tall glass and almost too large to finish by yourself. We haven’t heard of very many places in Colombo serving slushies so this really hits the spot and the fact that it’s available in other flavours is a generally good option on the beverage menu at The Paddington. A warning though, the slushie is slightly bitter in taste because of the blended rind.

Lime Mojito - Cup Café (6, C.W.W. Kannangara Mawatha, Colombo 07)

Price - Rs.350
Value for money - high
Taste - *****
Variety - Watermelon, passion fruit, pineapple.
Overall - Served in a large mason jar, the virgin mojito is a fizzy lime and mint drink with crushed ice, lime wedges and mint leaves. A perfectly cold drink which is light and refreshing. Our pick for this week.
