We grew up with it, and yet never find ourselves getting over its happy, nostalgic flavour! This week’s round consists of three places you can pick your tea time snack up from next time around.
Though Green Cabin, a reputed pastry shop will be our least favourite this week, the other two are very worth a try, had you not already indulged in their cream buns. Owing to value for money and portion size, we found ourselves loving the cream bun from Tasty Caterers over the one from Fab. They’re down Fife Road, and it is safe for us to say you should consider picking up their cream bun after work today!
Cream Bun - Tasty Caterers (88, Fife Road, Colombo 05)
Price - Rs.60
Value for money - high
Taste - *****
Overall - Biting into this treat was lovely, and brought back childhood memories of tucking into it for a snack or during teatime. The choux pastry was dusted with icing sugar and was soft when bitten into. It was filled with a melt-in-your-mouth cream filling which wasn’t too sweet. Easily our best pick for this week.
Cream Bun - Green Cabin (453, Galle Road, Colombo 04)
Price - Rs.60
Value for money - average
Taste - ***
Overall - The choux pastry was baked well and quite firm but we found the cream filling too sweet and a slightly artificial taste which we didn’t quite understand why but overall it is a decent cream bun.
Cream Bun - The Fab (474, Galle Road, Colombo 03)
Price - Rs.80
Value for money - low
Taste - ****
Overall - This was actually a very good cream bun and it was filled with a soft, creamy custard instead of cream, which was a welcome change but the pastry was small and if you’re paying Rs.80, you’d like to expect at least a decently sized pastry.
