The Fab (474, Galle Road, Colombo 03)
Price - 70/=
Value for Money - High
Taste - 3 ½
Overall - This pie has always been my favourite, and it didn’t disappoint. Creamy and very peppery with big chunks of chicken, it was filled to the brim! The pastry was nice and soft and crumbly without being too messy and it is quite a decent size as well. Overall, this pie is worth it.
Raja Bojun (Kolpetty)
Price - 60/=
Value for Money - Average
Taste - **
Overall - First off, there was a load of pastry on the top, rather like a muffin. It was unnecessary and hard to bite into. No-one wants a mouthful of fluffy tasteless pastry! It was a bit hard too, and not very creamy with an abundance of potato and carrot and hardly any chicken. Taste wise it was better than some bland pies we had last week but we still wouldn’t go back for this.
Family Baker (Galle Road, Mount Lavinia)
Price - 90/=
Value for Money - High
Taste - 3 ½
Overall - This was the biggest pie we came across, and it is lovely and spicy. There’s a ton of onions and potatoes and chicken as well. One small niggle I had is that I find skin left of potatoes unappetising in pastries. The pastry was nice in the sense that it was flaky but not messy at all! There is another pie offered by them which is even bigger and tastes good as well.
Delifrance (Odel, Alexandra Place, Colombo 07)
Price - 200/=
Value for Money - Above average
Taste - *****
Overall - First off, we found their pie to be a bit pricey, considering that fact that the second most expensive pie is only half the price of this one! That being said, this was our pick for the week. It was hot, with an amazing texture of creamy chicken with leeks, mushroom and a hint of cheese and the pastry just melted in our mouths. Though the price might be a turn off… it was too good for us not to go back again!
