The Startup Cook – Toffee Pudding
Being oven-less is most disadvantageous. Those sudden and unannounced hankerings for sweet treats cannot be satisfied. However the situation does provide for an opportunity to resort to puddings made on a stove top.
This recipe was found on laylita.com and it’s called Manjar or Dulce de Leche. It requires a few ingredients found easily in your kitchen. Admittedly, it needs a couple of hours of your time but the aftermath makes it completely worth it.
It is simply milk toffee but in a pudding form. Yum is the best word to describe it.
Ingredients
2 cups of milk
¼ - ½ cup of sugar
1 ½ tsp of vanilla essence
¼ tsp of baking powder
Directions
Pour the milk in to a heavy based saucepan.
Place the saucepan on a low flame.
Add the sugar, vanilla and baking powder to the milk.
Stir until the sugar melts and then stir occasionally.
Once the milk has reduced significantly, keep stirring frequently until the mix starts to thicken up and change in to a toffee colour.
When the pudding has thickened up, pour it in to a heat proof bowl.
Devour while it’s warm.
Disasters, Warnings and Tips
These measurements are sufficient to serve dessert for one.
I used ½ cup of sugar for this recipe, but I recommend ¼ cup of sugar.
This is like milk toffee except in a pudding form.
There was lightning and thunder while I was making this recipe, hence I could not listen to any of my leg shaking numbers when I was making this.
This recipe requires a lot of elbow grease. It’s like a mini work out.
Feel free to strain milk clots when necessary.
