Sri Lanka’s premier female ensemble is all set to take stage on Sunday the 15th of June 2014 at 7.30 pm at the Lionel Wendt. Totally 80s is directed by Soundarie David and evening is promised to take you back to the eighties with the group singing many of the well known favourites!
The choir has been practicing hard to put on a great show as they usually do. The girls have enjoyed the practices for this show as they all love the eighties music and they look forward to bringing back the melodies of the past on Sunday.
We dropped in on one of the rehearsals of the Soul Sounds and caught up with the girls. Here’s what they had to say about the show…
Comments from some of the members of the group
"I am very excited about the show. The iconic music of the 80's deeply resonates with all of us. It has been a thrilling and challenging experience reliving the music and fusing choral elements and choreography to create a strong repertoire." - Roshni Gunaratne
“Being a part of Soul Sounds has been an amazing life journey. The comfort that music gives enables me to re-energize and relieve the stress and pressure of balancing a demanding career and life with my husband and son. The journey has not been an easy one but definitely worth the price when I see what we, as a team, have accomplished over the years.” - Angela Rayer
"The 80's is definitely one of the best decades in pop music and our show is undoubtedly going to be a treat for all pop music lovers." - Mangala Abeysekera
"As an 80’s kid, the music of that era will always have a special place in my heart. Be it the Pop, Rock songs and even the love songs and ballads, creating choral arrangements that can showcase that diversity and musicality has been quite a learning experience. I think it’s great that Soul Sounds is venturing into this genre of music since we have always wanted to experiment more with pop music. To say I am excited about this show is an understatement!" - Lilanka Boteju
"This is my first concert with Soul Sounds. I've watched my older sister perform with the choir for so long and have always wanted to be a part of it, as everyone looked like they were having loads of fun on stage. My experience so far has been amazing and I can't wait to get on stage and rock!" - Reshalee De Silva
Soul Sounds is exclusively sponsored by DIMO, Deutsche Bank and Fairway Holdings for its 10 year celebrations, and none of the concerts would have been possible without their generous support.
