The Startup Cook - Breakfast Buns

When life gets unexpectedly hectic, food preparation unfortunately becomes an annoying chore. The thing is cooking shouldn’t become such a pain in the neck. For that reason, I keep a stack of quick fix recipes for regular rescue missions, when suddenly a seemingly normal week goes spiralling out of control.

Amidst my many treasures, a favourite of mine is this power house bun. It requires only a few ingredients, located quite easily in your kitchen. There is a 25 minute baking time, but in no way do these breakfast buns need any kind of babysitting. All you have to do is pop them in the oven and attend whatever work you have to do until the oven bell rings.

What is particularly important here is that these buns are absolutely delicious and extremely filling. A single serving of it is good enough to keep you going for several hours. Better yet, have them warm. There really isn’t a better comfort food to help you battle a crazy weekday.

Ingredients

2 burger buns
2 eggs
2 slices of chicken ham
2 tbs of cheese (grated)
Butter
Oregano
Salt
Pepper

Directions

Preheat oven to 175 Celsius. Prepare a baking sheet and set it aside.

Cut the chicken ham slices in to small pieces and set it aside.

Place the burger buns on a flat surface.

Scoop out the middle of the buns.

Generously butter the insides of the hollowed out buns.

Add the chicken ham in to each of the bread buns, press to flatten.

Add the cheese in to the buns and press to flatten.

Season it with pepper and oregano.

Carefully, crack each egg in to each bun.

Season the eggs with salt, pepper and oregano.

Gently place each bun on the prepared tray.

Bake for 20 – 25 minutes.

Disasters, Warnings and Tips

Serve these buns with some olives. Yumsies!

Once you crack the egg in to the bun and if you feel it cannot hold the egg, just widen the rim of the hole.

If you’re in a rush, feel free to just tear up the chicken ham in to bits instead of neatly cutting it.

Garnish with some chopped parsley because it looks prettier then.

Frankly, for this recipe you need only one chicken ham slice. I like to snack on the other one while making these buns.

Who else found the season finale of Game of Thrones utterly predictable?

Personally I find the packeted burger buns capable of better absorption rather than the fresh ones.

If you like your eggs to be slightly runny bake only for 20 minutes.

Oregano is soon becoming my favourite spice.
