The Original Rocket Burger located in the Galle Fort is possibly the best option for a tasty, juicy burgers with a delectable, crispy side of fries in the Southern Coast. The burgers are not cheap but they are value for money.
Taste and value for money – 4.5 stars
Before I start on the burgers, I must mention the delicious, crispy, chunky fries that accompanies them. The burgers are delicious no doubt but the fries take them to another level of awesome.
We tasted four burgers and some refreshing Blue Flamingo Iced Tea (Rs 150), which comes in the following flavours, Paradise Punch, Citrus Peel, Peach Tart and Don Earl Grey Palmer.
The Lighthouse (Rs. 1,600) was by far my favourite burger. After all you can’t really go wrong with a burger with two juicy beef patties, can you? This tall sensation is also packed with cheese, coleslaw, steak sauce, fried tomato, caramelised onions and a light spread of ketchup and mustard.
The Bulgogi (Rs. 850) with beef is served with a yummy Bulgogi sauce as well as homemade kimchi and green chilli mayo, which was my second favourite. I loved the idea of kimchi and the whole Korean twist to the traditional burger.
The Gringo (Rs. 880), which we had with a succulent piece of chicken and stuffed with layers of cheese, barbecue sauce, crispy fresh onion, green chilli mayo and caramelised onions as well as ketchup and mustard was also fantastic.
When we chose the Tiki Tiki (Rs. 600) we were told we would either love it or hate it but I must admit I was in between on this one. The patty was made essentially with rice and potato while it also had masala, green chilli mayo, crispy caramelised onions, ketchup and mustard. I feel the patty might work better if it were made with sticky Japanese rice, lightly crumb coated and fried, but that is just me. I do however hear that it is quite popular among vegetarians.
Friendly staff – 5 stars
The staff are extremely polite and friendly.
Parking – 3 stars
You are unlikely to find parking near the restaurant but just a short drive towards the Dutch Hospital and there is plenty of parking. The walk will do you good as it will help burn those calories after indulging in these juicy babies!
Toilets – 1.5 stars
They are well equipped with soap and toilet paper but the day we went there was a leak which I was told will be attended to.
