Billed as Colombo’s cosy hangout, The Commons Coffee House recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Long been the venue of choice for many Colombites to hang out and chill out, The Commons offers some of the tastiest grub around. As part of their tenth anniversary celebrations the Commons has revamped its menu and on offer is a great selection of cuisine. For those who want a quick snack, the cheesy fries are just perfect. Thick cut chips smothered in cheese hits all the right spots.
Genial restaurateur Harpo Gooneratne counts The Commons Coffee House as his first venture into the restaurant industry. “It has been an exciting ten year journey developing a brand such as Commons Coffee House where people can enjoy a great selection of cuisine in the company of good friends and family. We could not have come this far without the support of our loyal clients who have continued to enjoy the first home grown brand of coffee houses in the city," said Harpo. Plans are also afoot to expand the Commons Coffee House experience to others parts of the city and suburb he added.
For meat lovers the BBQ spare ribs are succulent and has a great balance of tangy spiciness. The Hawaiian Chicken Salad is beautifully presented in half a fresh pineapple and the salad itself contains plenty of tender pieces of succulent chicken in a creamy dressing topped with cashews and raisins to give it an authentic tropical taste. Crispy, crunchy and simply divine best describes the New York Ceaser Salad which comes with slivers of smoked salmon.
For those who love their burgers the Chicken Supreme Burger on offer is packed with flavours. Taking center stage in this culinary delight is the tender fillet of chicken, crispy fried to perfection. The bap is nice and floury and the chicken fillet is wedged between cheese and tomato served with fries.
For the pescatarians the panfried fillet of baramundi with lemon butter served on a bed of mash is mouthwateringly delicious. The freshness of the fish abounds and is perfectly balanced with the lemon butter. The mash is creamy and complements the fish perfectly. The seafood laksa is another dish which is hearty and spicy. Perfect for a rainy day to warm you up, the laksa is packed with prawns and is a dish which is excellent value for money.
For those with a sweet tooth there is an array of cakes and desserts. The passion fruit mousse and the chocolate mousse are beyond compare. On the whole the new menu at The Commons Coffee House is excellent and perfectly complements the ambiance of Colombo’s cosy hangout. The ideal venue for those who love comfort food and those seeking a quick bite to eat, the Commons Coffee House ticks all the right boxes!
